CORDOVA, Tenn. – A woman said she was sleepwalking when she trashed her Cordova hotel room, but police aren’t buying it.
Melanie Hackett, 37, was charged with vandalism Tuesday after employees at the Hilton Garden Inn in Cordova discovered about $7,500 worth of damage to room 205.
Employees said she ransacked the room, destroyed several items — including the television — and put holes in the walls.
Other hotel guests were surprised no one staying near the room heard what was going on.
“You always have your TV on and stuff, but if someone had been throwing something against the wall, I’m sure I would have heard something,” Vireen Doe said. “But that is bizarre.”
Police said when they got to the hotel, Hackett was still there. They said she didn’t show any signs of a mental crisis and arrested her.
A small dog that was with her was taken to a Memphis animal shelter.
Hackett is being held on a $15,000 bond.
