MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are investigating another homicide in Memphis.
Officers were called to the shooting in the 600 block of Bonwood Avenue at about 11:20 p.m. Friday.
The victim, now identified as 36-year-old Tammara Wright, had been sitting in a car in a driveway when she was shot, police said.
Multiple shots were fired at the vehicle, police said.
“It’s amazing. I did not know this,” Fred Turner, who lives in Westwood, said.
Police said the woman died at the hospital.
No one was at the home where the woman’s body was found out front.
It is unclear if the victim knew the gunman.
“You got to be a sad fella to have to kill somebody to make it right because you only got one life. Once that life over, it’s over,” a neighbor told WREG.
As signs to ‘Stop the Killing’ sat in front yards and alarm systems protected their homes, community members feared their neighborhood is becoming more dangerous.
“This used to be a nice neighborhood — used to be a nice neighborhood. But now, it is what it is,” Turner said.
People who live in the area are depending on each other to be more vigilant and calling on police to step up patrols.
“I’m not saying it would stop the crime, but it would slow it down,” Turner said.
Police have not yet released the name of the victim.
No one is in custody at this time.
