Woman kidnapped in Walmart parking lot then forced to drive to ATM and funeral home

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shoppers WREG talked to who come to this busy shopping center all the time said it seems like they can’t go anywhere without being afraid.

“It’s a terrible thing these days that you can’t go shopping or do something that’s normal daily life without feeling threatened or someone taking action against your life,” said shopper Lisa Maxwell.

The woman who said she was kidnapped from a Walmart parking  said the man told her to take him to this Bank of America down the street on Austin Peay.

She got money out of the ATM and gave it to him.

People who live in the area said it’s a shame incidents like this keep happening over and over.

“It’s getting really serious about getting out on the street by yourself. Something needs to be done but things are getting worse as time goes on,” said Elaine Hardy.

But it didn’t end there.

The woman said she then drove the man to M.J. Edwards Funeral Home after leaving the bank.

The man then got out of the car.

Lisa Maxwell said this was just one of many reasons she’s concerned about her safety.

“As a woman, I’ve taken self defense classes and I have my gun carry permit and I try to do what I can to make sure that I’m aware of my surroundings. I don’t put myself in situations that I feel unsafe,” she said.
