HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. — The driver of an 18-wheeler is facing charges after police say his truck collided with a car Wednesday morning, killing the driver.

Taracella Barnes

Helena-West Helena Police say 33-year-old Taracella Barnes was the driver of a semi-truck that struck a Dodge Dart driven by 64-year-old Barbara Kay Green at the intersection of Highway 242 and Highway 49 just after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Green was rushed to Helena Regional Medical Center, but she didn’t survive.

Officers say after the accident, Barnes kept going and didn’t stop. They found the truck a short time later, but the driver was nowhere to be found.

Barnes later surrendered himself to the Phillips County Sherriff’s Department and is now in the custody of the Arkansas State Police. He faces charges of negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, and driving while license suspended, police said.

The incident is still under investigation by the Arkansas State Police
