ST. LOUIS — The U.S. Marshals finally caught the Memphis woman believed to be responsible for lighting a man on fire, the U.S. Marshals Service said Friday in a statement.
Tamika Jones is in custody at the St. Louis City Justice Center as she waits to be sent back to Shelby County.
In May 2012, Jones allegedly poured gasoline on her then-boyfriend Cedric Garrison and set him on fire outside a convenience store on Castalia Street in Memphis. Garrison spent days unconscious after the attack and was left with severe scars.
Jones escaped before police arrived to the scene.
The U.S. Marshals took up the search, which brought them to Louisiana, Texas, Georgia, Illinois and the Memphis area before they followed a tip to the St. Louis area. Investigators found Jones living under an assumed name in a quiet neighborhood.
According to the police report, one of Jones’ children told officers that she had been stressed out about bills and frustrated with Garrison.
But Garrison’s mother, Nola Garrison, told WREG in 2012 that Jones’ motive may have been more sinister than that.
“To my knowledge, she don’t want him, and she don’t want nobody else to have him,” she said.
Jones is facing charges for criminal attempt first degree murder and aggravated assault.
