MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis woman who told police she stabbed her two children to death has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
In July, 2013 Briggs called 911 and said she stabbed her 1 and 6-year-old children at a home on Tillman.
One child was stabbed eight times, the other four times.
Briggs said voices in her head to her to kill the children.
Nicholas, 6, was supposed to be living with a relative after being taken away by DCS. A 9-year-old daughter was taken away from her six years earlier.
DCS told WREG in November of 2013 it did not know the 1-year-old boy existed.
Family members said Briggs had a history of schizophrenia and other mental problems.
She was indicted on two counts of murder in the perpetration of aggravated child abuse and neglect by a Shelby County Grand Jury.
Briggs is currently being held at a mental hospital.
