MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The man accused of murdering a Dyersburg woman in 2017 wrote a false suicide note and filed a police report to cover up his crime, a grand jury said in his indictment.
Jason Riley, 29, is in the Shelby County Jail charged with the first-degree murder of his former girlfriend, Hollie Marie Adcock.
The Dyer County man was taken into custody Wednesday and transported back to Memphis, where the alleged crime took place. He also faces charges of tampering with evidence, filing a false police report and extortion.
He was given a $700,000 bond.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Adcock was found with a gunshot wound to the head, inside her apartment in the 800 block of Thistledown Drive in East Memphis on April 9, 2017. She was rushed to the Regional Medical Center where she later died.
At first her death was believed to be a suicide since a note was found on the scene. However, investigators later determined someone had staged the crime scene.
That person, officers said, was her boyfriend. Officers further revealed that their investigation led them to believe Riley handled the gun that was used to fire the shot. He even reportedly left several messages on Adcock’s phone threatening her if she broke up with him.
