HERNANDO, Miss. — Voters trickled in to the voting site in Hernando, but it wasn’t the number of voters Election Commissioners were looking for.
In May, voter turnout was just at 13% and commissioners said Tuesday’s runoff numbers would be lower than that.
“I think it’s kind of weak that the folks don’t come out here and vote. I mean that’s kind of like your right and your duty too. You need to come out here and do your voting,” said Jimmy Calvery.
People who did go to the polls said this election was important.
It decided whether Trent Kelly or Walter Zinn would take over U.S. Representative Alan Nunnelee’s seat in Washington.
If you haven’t had a change to go out and vote, election commissioners said there’s still time.
The polls will remain open until 7 p.m.
