Special election to take place on Tuesday

DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — The signs were out, letting people know the polls would be open tomorrow for the special election runoff to fill U.S. Representative Alan Nunnelee’s seat.

The pool dwindled from thirteen to two, with Republican Trent Kelly and Democrat Walter Zinn set to go head to head.

The winner would serve the rest of Nunnelee’s term, and that why the Election Commission said it hoped voter turnout would improve this time around.

“The turnout was horrible. I mean it really was very disappointing,” said Sissie Ferguson, the Desoto County Commissioner. “I mean when you have — because there were 13 candidates in that May 12th election and you would think there would be more people. We had a 13 — right at 13% turnout.”

The main point Election Commissioners here wanted to make was the election is important and they hoped more people would come out to vote.
