(Shelby County, TN) Only three months after Shelby County suburbs voted to create their own municipal school districts, they have elected their school board members to create the foundation for their future schools.
The following people have been elected to school board:
In Arlington: Steven Bierbrodt, Laura Campbell, Kay Morgan Williams, Danny Young and Barbara Fletcher.
In Bartlett: Jeff Norris, Erin Berry, Shirley Jackson, Bryan Woodruff, and David Cook.
In Collierville: Kevin Vaughan, Wanda Chism, Carr Kelsey, Mark Hansen, and Wright Cox.
In Germantown: Paige Michael, Mark Dely, Natalie Williams, Lisa Parker, and Ken Hoover.
In Lakeland: Karen Woodward, Laura Harrison, Richard Bryant, Teresa Henry and Kevin Floyd.
In Millington: Gregory Ritter, Christopher Grow, Louise Kennon, Charles Reed, Oscar Brown, R. Jason Dupree, and Anne Reed.
Millington’s candidates all ran unopposed, while all candidates in Collierville ran in contested races.
Many of the cities already had meetings with all the candidates over the last few months, as they began discussing the future of their schools.
Now that the election is over, the elected members of the board will continue that work.
The board members will now wait to see if a federal judge will make a ruling, on whether the law allowing municipal districts violates the state constitution.
Some are guessing that Judge Samuel Mays has waited to make that call until after the voters have cast their ballots, but that he may make this ruling before the election is certified in about 10 days.
