City Council member Harold Collins declared his intention to become Memphis’s next mayor this week.

Collins has represented the Whitehaven area for almost eight years and is running on the theme that he “still believes” in Memphis.

In the past, he has been critical of incumbent Mayor A C Wharton for catering more to big business interests and less to average citizens.

Until just recently, Collins worked as an assistant to Shelby County DA Amy Weirich but was forced to quit if he wanted to campaign for mayor.
