MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Every day this week, it seemed there was a new and damaging development following the revelation that Mayor A C Wharton’s campaign manager Deidre Malone’s PR firm signed a $900,000 deal to conduct a PR and marketing campaign for TASER International. TASER was just awarded a multimillion-dollar contract to equip Memphis Police with body cameras.

The story exposed the inner workings of City Hall, sparked accusations of cronyism and drew attention to the process of hiring minority- and women-owned contractors.
