MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Wharton administration wants to transform the Mid-South Fairgrounds into an amateur sports megaplex, not unlike Orlando or Indianapolis.

It envisions a place where families from all over the country will come to play and compete.

Price tag: $230 million, with $176 million of that paid for by deferred sales tax revenues from the state.

But a public forum this week showed concerns remain about whether the dream is based in reality.
