In a dramatic shift from its previous policy, The Boy Scouts of America voted Thursday to lift the ban on openly gay scouts.
1400 Boy Scout leaders voted by secret ballot, in the end, 61% of the delegates supported lifting the ban.
The change goes into effect January 1st.
The ban on gay adult leaders remains in place.
