Collierville passes tax hike for schools

Last night, Collierville’s mayor and aldermen approved a large increase in its property tax rate to fund a brand new $100 million high school.

WREG was told the increase would be  25¢, which was almost double the 15¢ originally proposed.

That equaled an extra $125 year on a $200,000 house.

Some taxpayers said they are pushing for a referendum, saying the cost is too high, and they’re not happy with the location of the new school.

Collierville Schools Superintendent John Aitken stopped by to discuss the issue.
