Fighting for transit equality

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — This month, MATA told the City Council its funding issues are so dire it is “on the verge of collapse.”

The Memphis Bus Riders Union said this is absolutely a civil rights issue.

The public transportation system serves some 25,000 people every day in Memphis.

Sammie Hunter and Cynthia Bailey co-chair the Memphis Bus Riders Union.
