MAYOR WHARTON’S 5TH ANNUAL TRAINING CAMP FOR DADS EVOLVES INTO MEMPHIS FATHERHOOD WEEKEND JUNE 19-21

The City of Memphis and Mayor AC Wharton Jr. will host the Memphis Fatherhood Weekend on June 19-21, including a Fatherhood Awards ceremony honoring exemplary dads and the all-new, action-packed 5th Annual Training Camp for Dads.

To kick off the weekend, several amazing fathers will be recognized for their commitment to their families as well as our community at the Memphis Fatherhood Awards press conference/ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday, June 19 at City Hall – Hall of Mayors. In past, influential men and unsung heroes alike, including Dr. James Netters, senior pastor at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and single father, Colonel Bradley Meeks, have been honored.

On Saturday, June 20, the 5th Annual Memphis Training Camp for Dads will take place at For the Kingdom Camp and Retreat Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dads and father figures from the across the city are invited to take part in a free, action-oriented day that will offer tools and information on parenting from a father’s perspective.

The sports-themed Training Camp will feature friendly physical competition connected to workshops specific to fathers, including riding a zip line, rock-climbing and navigating an obstacle course, as well as live cooking demonstrations and opportunities to meet other fathers and share in each other’s experiences and successes in parenting.

Mayor Wharton hopes the Memphis Fatherhood Weekend will highlight outstanding dads and provide new and seasoned fathers with tools to become even better.

“We’re excited this year about a new action-oriented format and a beautiful new venue for our 5th Annual Training Camp For Dads,” says Mayor Wharton. “All weekend we will celebrate dads and father figures who strive to be positive role models in our community and make an impact on their children’s lives.”

The weekend will culminate on Father’s Day with a social media campaign, #ThanksDadMem, in which residents are asked to show how and why they are celebrating their dads.
