Memphis City Council on ‘safety net’ for retirees

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — City council members are trying to deal with the cost of city employee benefits, both healthcare and pensions.

Council members came up with a preliminary approval to a “safety net” for retirees impacted by the increase in health care costs the council approved.

The $2 million fund could be used to help people with their deductibles or co-pays.

If that plan is approved, eligibility requirements will be set.

This plan will only last one year, but it could be extended.

City council members Harold Collins and Wanda Halbert joined us on Live at 9 to tell us about the plan.
