The family of fallen Memphis Police Officer Verdell Smith is working with the Memphis Police Department to finalize funeral arrangements.
The veteran officer died Saturday night after police say he was run over by 21-year-old Justin Welch.
Police say Welch was fleeing from other officers following the shooting of three people in the Pinch District.
This has been a huge blow to all of us, but especially to those who served with Smith.
