MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Live at 9) – Singer Justin Timberlake was arrested early Tuesday for allegedly driving while intoxicated in the Hamptons on Long Island’s east end.

The Sag Harbor Police Department confirmed Timberlake was in their custody after he was pulled over for running a stop sign. Timberlake refused to take a breathalyzer test and was charged with a DWI offense. He appeared in court for arraignment and was later seen leaving in a black baseball cap and black button-down shirt.

TMZ reported that Timberlake was leaving a party at the American Hotel when he was stopped. Friends reportedly tried to persuade the police to be lenient. He had been seen swerving out of his lane and officers said they smelled alcohol on his breath. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the arrest but declined further comment.

Timberlake, currently on tour, has upcoming shows in Chicago and New York City. He is married to actress Jessica Biel and they have two sons. In New York state, a DWI offense can result in a fine of up to $1,000, a maximum one-year jail term and a license revocation for at least six months. Timberlake’s next court date is July 26th.
