When the consultant group asked parents last night what they want in their next superintendent, one name kept coming up, John Aitkin.

Mr. Aitken announced Wednesday he’s stepping down as head of Shelby County Schools, and that he does not want to be considered for the position in a new Unified School District.

It was an emotional departure.

He joins us now for his first interview since making that decision.
