Pothole protection: Memphis Public Works Director gets proactive about protecting drivers

Memphis Public Works Director Robert Knecht joins Live at 9 to safeguard drivers from potholes in hopes the advice will ensure smoother and safer journeys on the city’s roads after the prolonged winter storm left behind a growing pothole problem. Knecht tells drivers everything they need to know about the effort to fill potholes as they’re forming, how to avoid potholes, how to report potholes and how to file a claim for reimbursement.

To report a pothole on a state route or highway:

To report a pothole on a city road:
Dial 3-1-1. Or report it online at this link HERE.

Below is what you need to file a claim with the City of Memphis. File the claim by clicking this link HERE:

  1. A copy of a state-issued ID (ex. Driver’s license) for an individual OR a W-9 form for a business or company (for ALL claims)
  2. Two legitimate estimates of damages OR receipts of damage repairs (for property damage/loss claims)
  3. Unaltered copies of all medical bills or other related expenses (for bodily injury claims)
  4. Copy of police report (if available)
  5. Photographs of defect (if available)
  6. Photographs of damages (if available)
  7. Statements from witness(es) (if available)
  8. Any other documents that will support the claim (if available)
