Shelby County joins cities and counties across the country in a “PrepareAThon” this week.

But Shelby County is actually the first in this state to join the Federal Management Agency in the five-day disaster education event.

Dale Lane heads up the Office of Emergency Preparedness.

  • Monday April 25: Understanding Weather Alerts and Warnings
  • Tuesday April 26: Local Flooding Risks
  • Wednesday April 27: Preparing for Tornadoes
  • Thursday April 29: Earthquake Awareness and Response
  • Friday April 30: The Challenge to Get Involved-by taking a community emergency response team (CERT) training class, National Weather Service weather spotter course or learn to be a shelter volunteer with the American Red Cross
