News Channel 3 exposed the problem several years ago. 

Now, the city of Memphis is finally getting some help, dealing with the largest known backlog of rape kits in the country. 

Yesterday, Mayor A C Wharton said it’s going to take about six million dollars and several years to test more than 12,000 kits Some 20 years old! 

A group called the Joyful Heart Foundation is going to lend its expertise to solving the problem and Shelby County DA Amy Weirich is promising results for rape victims. 

The city has also asked former U.S. Attorney Veronica Coleman-Davis to look into how the backlog started, to figure out how to keep it from happening again.
