Shelby County Schools and consolidation

Leaders at Shelby County Schools are moving forward with plans to close and consolidate several schools.

Last night, the school board approved a resolution to begin holding community meetings on the proposed changes.

The board wants to close seven schools and build three new schools to replace aging buildings.

Superintendent Dorsey Hopson also gave the board a preview of the TNReady test results. He called them disheartening.

Those results will be released at a later date.

Shelby County School Board member Chris Caldwell talks about last night’s meeting.
