Transparency is a word on many people’s minds these days.
In the wake of shootings like these, some lawmakers are among those calling for clearer investigations.
Right now, the TBI is only required to turn over their findings to the District Attorney’s Office.
The D.A. then decides if charges will be filed.
A judge must approve making investigative files public.
Representative G.A. Hardaway and State Senator Brian Kelsey filed a bill to require the TBI to investigate all police shootings across the state.
The bill would also require the TBI’s report to automatically become public after it’s given to the D.A.
Here to talk about that, and other big decisions before lawmakers this session, were Representatives Mark White and Antonio Parkinson.
