What your brain looks like on drugs

Happening now, supporters of an ordinance to reduce penalties for marijuana possession in unincorporated areas of Shelby County are plotting their next move.

Yesterday, the County Commission voted 7 to 4 to reject the measure.

It would give officers the option of handing out tickets, instead of jail time, for those caught with a half-ounce of pot or less.

But it’s not a totally off the table yet.

The County Commission will vote twice more on the measure.

You’ll remember, the Memphis City Council passed a similar ordinance last month.

Meanwhile, addiction counselors say even a small amount of marijuana used recreationally can have lasting effects.  Karen Morgan is with Turning Point Recovery.
