Today on Live at 9, Memphis Jazz Workshop (MJW) founder Stephen Lee and pianist Gabby Cain detail the program and an Annesdale Mansion fundraiser, followed by an original piece composed by the students. Here are the event details:
Location: Annesdale Mansion
Date: Saturday
Time: 6 – 9 p.m.
The non-profit’s mission is to revitalize jazz for a new generation by training and inspiring young musicians, giving them not only musical skills but life lessons in confidence, discipline, and creativity.
On Saturday, attendees can enjoy live performances by the students. Lee says this isn’t just a concert—it’s a vital fundraiser to support MJW’s mission of providing enriching musical experiences and mentorship to local youth.
Lee’s journey began with a vision: to fill the gap in jazz education he saw after moving to Memphis. Since its founding in 2016, MJW has grown tremendously, serving more than 150 students across after-school and summer programs, thanks to partnerships with organizations like the Memphis Mayor’s MPLOY program.
