MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Light, Gas and Water wants to help some needy Mid-Southerners keep it cool this summer.

MLGW is donating 200 window air-conditioning units to qualified low-income seniors and the disabled in Shelby County.

On Tuesday, May 10, there will be a screening and application process at the Neighborhood Christian Center on 785 Jackson Ave. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Play It Cool Program.

To be eligible, you need to:

  • Be a low-income senior age 60 and up
  • Not have working air conditioning
  • Not have received an air conditioner from the Play It Cool program in the past three years
  • Meet installation requirements; Units can not be installed in homes with bar or storm windows

To apply, you need to show the following:

  • Tennessee State ID or drivers license
  • Most recent pay stub or social security income statement
