MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department asked the Department of Justice to launch an independent and comprehensive assessment of the department.
Meanwhile, some county commissioners want Shelby County to pass a measure like the City of Memphis did a few weeks ago to lessen the penalties for marijuana possession. It would only apply to unincorporated areas, and it seems to be getting the same chilly reception it did before barely passing the City Council.
