Shelby County Schools approved a four-year contract with Superintendent Joris Ray at a meeting Tuesday night, the district reported.

Shelby County Schools plans to change the way the district educates black male students.

Dr. Joris Ray took the interim superintendent position in December 2018.

Shelby County Schools said students and teachers will not be heading back to campus come January as originally planned due to the pandemic.

Dr. Ray will have to immediately tackle challenges like the 2020 budget while the school board negotiates his contract and salary.

Several SCS employees were interviewed.

Several West Tennessee school districts including Shelby County showed improvement in math scores in this year’s TNReady tests, while others scored well in English, according to results from those tests released Tuesday morning.
