Memphis and Nashville school leaders say they are prepared for a legal fight against the proposed Education Savings Account plan that made its way through the General Assembly last week, saying it violates the state’s constitution. 

The interim superintendent of Shelby County Schools claims he was audited for money misuse while working for the district in 2007 but now, the district can’t find those files.

SCS got back to us late Monday with another statement.

Several SCS employees were interviewed.

SCS says they’re now working to develop a a student tip hotline and mobile app. 

The board hasn’t used a national search for a superintendent in 10 years. But now, there are two options on the table for the board to vote on.

After hearing many concerns about the bill, Rep. Williams says he wants to take some time to discuss ways to improve it as it moves on to the Full Education Committee. 

Family friends said Rakayla Blount was crossing the road to get to her father across the street when she was hit, and he watched the whole thing unfold in front of him.

Ray’s contract was approved Wednesday. It’s temporary at a $285,000 salary.

He was the chief of academic operations and school support for the district before accepting his new position.
