At the first community meeting on Thursday, SCS Superintendent Dorsey Hopson talked to parents about where the students could possibly be sent. 

County health inspectors say two weeks ago they didn’t find any pest problems in the cafeteria at Kirby High.

The Shelby County School district admitted there is a pes infestation at the school, so they cancelled class to allow crews to “inspect the building and perform all of the necessary treatments.”

The school initially closed after students complained about seeing rats and a snake on the campus.

School board member Kevin Woods confirms the district is looking at all options after a rodent problem closed Kirby High School again this week, including moving students to another space.

For the next 6 to 8 weeks, more than 1,000 students in Memphis will have to be relocated after Kirby High School school was taken over by rats.

Winners from week 11 include MUS, Houston, Kirby, Olive Branch and DeSoto Central.

Kirby’s 800 students will have to complete work from home Thursday and Friday, and then split into two other schools starting Monday— 400 at Kirby Middle and 400 at DuBois Middle.
