The case against a Nashville police officer accused of shooting and killing a man last summer has been turned over to a grand jury.

Montero Evans, 42, is charged with aggravated assault and is being held on a $30,000 bond.

The driver accused in a road rage shooting on the interstate in early December has been taken into custody.

Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland said Friday he will ask state lawmakers to make prison time mandatory for road rage shootings, following a string of recent shootings on interstates around Memphis.

Bill Morris Parkway near Ridgeway was temporarily blocked due to a police incident early Wednesday morning.

“I truly believe God had his hand on me because this could’ve very easily have killed me.”

“My five-year-old, she tells everybody, ‘Mommy had a gun pulled on her,’ so she knows, Jerrilynn Nolan said. “She was terrified.”

The no-tolerance “Grizzly Operation” will target distracted drivers, those under the influence and speeders. 

Memphis police are investigating another case of road rage on the interstate system that ended in shots being fired.

Troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol are all over the interstate lighting up drivers left and right, looking for aggressive drivers after a string of shootings on I-40 and 240.

It was at least the sixth shooting on the north leg of I-40 through Memphis this year.
