There’s big news for parents whose children end up in Shelby County Juvenile Court. Expensive fees the court used to charge are gone. Most of the families that come through the court are at or near the poverty line, and county officials don’t want to saddle parents with costly fees when they’re already struggling to make ends meet.

The Shelby County Commission approved an ordinance to secure $15 an hour for county employees, according to Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris. 

Surface Dynamics will invest nearly $10 million and create approximately 110 jobs in Bartlett over the next five years, according to a statement from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.

Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris has vetoed a $1 million grant to The University of Memphis. Now the university’s president and county commissioners are firing back. 

Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris declared a state of emergency Friday afternoon because of recent flash flooding that inundated Germantown and other areas of the county this week.

The Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen have moved to formally request a disaster declaration after heavy rain and flooding caused damage in the city last week. 

On Jan. 1, 1976, he was sworn in as the first Shelby County mayor, after the county changed its form of government to add the mayor’s role.
