With three northern white rhinos left in the world, the only male is gravely ill, raising fears the subspecies is getting closer to extinction.

Civil rights activist the Rev. Jesse Jackson said Friday that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. A neurological disorder with no cure, Parkinson’s can cause tremors, stiffness and difficulty balancing, walking and coordinating movement.

“It’s all about the kids, it’s not for us,” Leslie Gillis said. “We’re here, we’re fighting with you as well.”

“The support is wonderful, that`s the greatest thing about it.”

“I’ve been volunteering for the race and been around a lot of survivors, so it’s really made things easy for me because I saw that you can survive and it’s not a death sentence,” said Wilkerson. “It’s amazing for me. It’s definitely a relief.”

Multiple streets, including sections of G.E. Patterson, Front Street, Beale Street, Riverside Drive and Union Avenue, will be closed as racers gear up to run for breast cancer awareness.
