An Ohio woman is recovering from severe frostbite after telling police say she went to a party and then woke up inside a freezer with severe frostbite.

A registered sex offender from Louisiana was convicted  of raping a woman at gunpoint in Memphis in 1998, thanks to a sexual assault kit processed 16 years later, District Attorney Amy Weirich’s office said.

An X-ray technician at the hospital contacted the woman’s assailant to tell him the victim had accused him of sexual assault.

That would allow them to focus on a longer time frame of negligence and more victims affected by the backlog.
