I shop for a living and I’ve tried dozens and dozens of products this year made specifically for mature skin. It’s such a relief to have products marketed to me, where I am right now—not promising to thrust me into some sort of time machine. From red light therapy to masks and serums, I’ve rounded up the products that have truly made my skin feel fantastic — and given bonus points to the ones that don’t scream “anti-aging!” all over the packaging.

I was sold on this product before I even used it, because the marketing is genius. In lieu of any “anti-aging” language, this mask from Caire proudly states “skin care for grown-ups.” If you’re sick of having the term “anti-aging” thrown at you, this is a salve. Then you spread this cooling mask over your face and realize the product is even better than the packaging. This mask manages to give you the satisfying feel of firmness without feeling like your face is going to crack while you wear it. And my skin had an instantly refreshed feel when I removed it. I religiously use this once a week.
IT Cosmetics Confidence in Your Beauty Sleep Serum
This serum came in a gift bag at an Amazon event I attended, and it is now one of my favorite products ever. You rub a few drops between your fingers at night and smooth the warmed serum over your just-washed face. It immediately feels amazing, but the real treat comes in the morning when you wake up with soft, glowing skin. I recommend this product to anyone who will listen. It has visibly improved my skin — I’ve never woken up to this kind of glow before this product. BUY THIS. Seriously.
As we age our skin becomes thinner, so the regimens we’ve been using for our skin really need to change. I was informed during a facial a few years ago that my skin was visibly stressed and irritated. It turned out that the skin care regimen I’d been following since my 30s needed to change — and that my skin was craving some calm. This serum has algae extracts that help reduce the appearance of redness and irritation and pomegranate extracts that help calm the look of the skin. Totally suitable for sensitive skin.
selfmade Corrective Experience Niacinamide Cream
I didn’t believe I could put this on my face because it came in such a huge tub. Well, I was wrong. This cream is so soft and seems to instantly settle skin stress when you slather it on. I use the word “slather” intentionally because with such a generous tub, you can really feel free to coat your face, which is such a change from the usual limitations a small tub of moisturizer brings. The company claims the cream is “designed to decrease stress levels in itchy, rough skin and prevent dehydration.” I can definitely confirm that the claim is correct.
Best tools for mature skin
NuFace has been trending on social media platforms for a few years now, with users claiming they see real results after continuous use. It’s an at-home microcurrent device that provides low-level electrical currents to tighten skin on the face and neck. I tried the Mini version, because it’s more financially accessible than the Trinity — it costs $250 compared to the Trinity’s $450. The device also comes with conducting gel and a brush. You need to continuosly buy the conducting gel, because the device can’t be used without it. The NuFace app guides you with easy-to-follow video tutorials to ensure you’re getting the most out of your device. There is also a feature in the app that allows you to track your progress with photos. As with any skin care routine, you need to be consistent to really see results. I liked the ease of use and my skin definitely looked and felt tighter when I used it consistently. These tools are so rarely on sale — this is a very special deal.
PMD Clean Revolution Red Light Therapy
Red light therapy is gaining more and more popularity recently, so I had to try it out. The regular treatment claims to boost collagen levels in the skin, increase blood circulation to the skin and reduce inflammation. I’ve been regularly using this tool for months and my skin definitely has a glow. The treatment itself forces you to sit and relax for a bit as you run the wand over your face, so that’s a plus. Red light therapy is a popular add-on in professional skin treatments, so having your own wand at home really is cost-effective if it’s something you’re interested in using regularly.
PMD Personal Microderm Elite Pro
This may be my favorite beauty tool, ever. This is another pricey tool that saves you money in the long run if you’re someone who attempts to have regular professional facials. Hydratherapy facials that manage to clear the pores as well as the PMD Microderm Elite can run upwards of $250 per treatment. Layer in some red light therapy, and you’re looking at even more. PMD makes luxury face care more accessible, because these handheld tools are easy to use and care for and they allow you to reap the benefits of deep pore cleansing at home. Regular exfoliation prevents clogged pores by removing dead skin that can trap dirt and pollutants in your pores. If you’re looking for a minimized appearance of pores and very smooth-feeling skin, this is the tool for you.
