MEMPHIS, Tenn. — On Friday, the AutoZone Liberty Bowl announced it will be honoring football legend Archie Manning at this year’s AutoZone Liberty Bowl Golf Classic.

Manning will be receiving the annual Distinguished Citizen Award.

“Archie joins a long list of great Americans who have distinguished themselves and reached the pinnacle of their chosen field,” said Steve Ehrhart, the Executive Director of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. “We are proud to include Archie among the luminaries who have been honored by the AutoZone Liberty Bowl during our long history.”

Manning will be in good company.

Over the years, the honor has been bestowed upon leaders, military commanders, governors, congressmen, and other sports legends.

They include FedEx Chairman, President, and CEO Fred Smith; Nobel Prize recipient Dr. Peter Doherty; Danny Thomas, Elvis Presley, Paul “Bear” Bryant, Bobby Bowden, Lou Holtz, Tony Dungy, Lee Corso, Darrell Waltrip and Dick Vitale.

What sets Manning apart is his history with the Liberty Bowl.

To date, he is the only recipient who has played in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

The ceremony will be held Sunday, June 19 at the Hilton Memphis Hotel.

The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by a dinner and award presentation.

The public is invited to attend, but attendees are required to have tickets.

All of the proceeds from the event will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
