MEMPHIS, Tenn. –On Friday, Georgia Tech officially introduced Josh Pastner as their new coach.

Georgia Tech Director of Atheltics began the news conference by outlining what they were looking for in a new head coach.

The program recently decided to replace former head coach Brian Gregory, who they say made a tremendous impact on the players despite mediocre stats.

Gregory was 76-86 overall and 27-61 in ACC play.

Bobinski said it was important for them to find someone who possessed those same personal characteristics like integrity, energy, and a commitment to the program,  but could also push the program forward.

They found that in Pastner, they said.

Pastner has been the coach at Memphis for the past seven seasons and is 167-73.

He has made four NCAA Tournaments in that span.

Attendance at games has continued to drop to just over 11,000 this season from a high of 16,000 three years.

Just a few weeks ago, U of M President M. David Rudd and Athletic Director Tom Bowen said they were keeping Pastner as head coach.

We have completed our comprehensive review of the men’s basketball program and have concluded that our program operates in a manner consistent with the core values of our University and community, but has fallen short in our on-court performance the last two years. The UofM will make the necessary investments and changes in order that our program may compete at the highest level with Josh Pastner as our coach.
