CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Grizzlies rookie guard Jaylen Wells has been taken to a Charlotte area hospital after taking a scary fall during the second quarter of Tuesday night’s game between the Grizzlies and Hornets.

The injury came with 1:10 left in the first half when Charlotte’s KJ Simpson fouled Wells from behind as Wells went up for a breakaway jam. Wells fell face first to the floor. Trainers from both teams raced out to the court to help the first year guard, who was later put on a stretcher and helped off the court. The Grizzlies circled in prayer as their teammate was taken by ambulance to the hospital. His father would later tweet that his son was awake and alert but Wells did suffer a broken wrist in the fall.

The game was delayed 24 minutes with the Grizzlies leading 62-44. Simpson was given a Flagrant 2 foul and ejected from the game. A game the Grizzlies would go on to win 124-100 thanks to 28 points from Ja Morant. Zach Edey, coming off a franchise rookie record 21 rebounds, had 17 points and 19 boards as Memphis won its third straight, all on the road.
