CHATTANOOGA — One win short.
Back in the state finals for the first time in 19 years, Melrose comes up one win short of the school’s first state title since 1998, falling to Macon County in the 4A State Championship 45-14.
Rhyan Brown ran for 91 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Wildcats, but a fumble at the Macon County goal line on the opening drive of the game for Melrose, set the tone for the rest of the game.
That and the Tigers ground game.
Macon County running for 370 yards. Zach Borders had 249 of those rushing yards and scored all four of his touchdowns in the second half as the Tigers make the most of their first ever trip to the state finals.
