BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — Despite the weather, fans still showed up to enjoy the Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday night to see their favorite NASCAR drivers.
Families in the stands watched the Weather Guard Truck Race, the first race in the Spring Tripleheader.
Race fans Justin Brickey and his son Flint rooted for Kyle Larson.
“Kind of a Dale Jr. fan growing up, and then whenever Kyle came along and followed in those foot steps, and we’re really big in the dirt track record like that, someday I’m going to have fun and then see him get involved in local track racing and people that go in, even though he’s made it to the top, he still enncorages them and gives back whenever he can,” Brickey said.
Fan Mark Ketron started coming to the speedway when he was 10.
“I was here, I think it was ’75. Richard Petty won for the first time here in several years,” Ketron said. “And my brother Jerry and I wound up in Victory Lane.
The atmosphere and camaraderie, everyone just has fun.”
Fans Andrea Ehrets and her daughter Emma traveled from New York to witness Thunder Valley.
“I was here in 2016, but it was just 20 laps, and it got rained out. So we went home,” she said. “She didn’t come, she was too little.”
Ehrets is excited to witness the world’s fastest half mile.
“I like to check out all the tracks,” she said. “It’s a lot of fun. We enjoy going to the races. So my husband’s a big NASCAR fan. He was the one who got us into this.”
