JACKSON, Miss. (WREG) — Former Ridgeway standout Quincy Casey completed 30 of 47 passes for 323 yards with four touchdown passes and no interceptions for Jackson State.
Despite those big numbers, the Tigers would fall to Alabama A&M 52-43 moving their record to 4-3.
Saturday was Casey’s third time under center this season. Tigers coach Deion Sanders has been vocal about wanting to get him more snaps this season, but he said he did well.
“What went into that? He played well,” Sanders said. “He needs to make a few better decisions, but he’s coming off the bench, hasn’t played much this year. I think he did a phenomenal job.”
In two seasons at Jackson State, Casey has never thrown an interception.
Casey’s high school head coach Duron Sutton said the talent we’ve seen so far from his former quarterback is just scratching the surface.
“He’s working, grinding in silence, doing his job, doing what he’s supposed to do,” said Sutton. “When he finally got his opportunity, he showed what he can do. Me being biased to my own quarterback; I think he was the better passer of the two guys that had been playing. So, he’s worked hard to get where he is and he’s going to continue to work and hopefully just remains humble and continues to shine because this is just the beginning part of it. He has such a long ways to go, this is just scratching the surface of what he can do so, hopefully gets another opportunity to shine.”
