KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Volunteers defensive end/linebacker Curt Maggitt is out indefinitely after injuring his hip Saturday in a 31-24 overtime loss to the Oklahoma Sooners.

Volunteers coach Butch Jones said Monday that Maggitt would miss “an extended period of time” and that he might have a more specific timetable later this week. Maggitt, a fifth-year senior from West Palm Beach, Florida, had 14 tackles for loss and a team-high 11 sacks last season.

Jones added that defensive tackle Danny O’Brien remains suspended and reserve safety Max Arnold and backup running back Ralph David Abernathy Jr. would miss their second straight games this week when Tennessee (1-1) hosts Western Carolina (1-1).

Arnold has a sprained medial collateral ligament. Abernathy has an ankle sprain.

Jones says Maggitt got hurt while working on a punt coverage unit.
