MEMPHIS — It’s a broken right wrist and a lacerated face for Grizzlies rookie Jaylen Wells, who was released from the hospital Wednesday after that scary, face-first fall in Charlotte.
If you see the play, it’s probably the best of outcome but the downside is that Wells is likely done for the season.
The Grizzlies come home for their next ‘biggest game of the season’ Thursday night against the Timberwolves. In a tightly bunched Western Conference playoff race, where third through eighth place are separated by just two games, Minnesota and Memphis are both trying to play their way out of the play-in game with the Grizzlies riding a three-game winning streak.
Playing well, yes. Peaking heading into the playoffs… not quite yet.
“It’s very hard to say if we’re peaking or not. I think we’re playing very solid basketball at the moment. I do think there are areas that we can and still need to sharpen up when we go against the best,” said Grizzlies interim coach Tuomas Iisalo. “But there’s nothing else than today and we took a step forward today and tomorrow we’re going to look to take another step forward. Just go day by day and not think too much about where we are or where others are and just focus on what we can control in the moment.”
Grizzlies and Timberwolves tip off at 8:30 Thursday night.
