Man Arrested For Stabbing Woman & Stealing Her Car With Her Kids Still Inside

(Memphis) A 23-year-old man has now been arrested for stealing a car with two children inside.

Derrick Fifer is charged with aggravated robbery, two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, criminal attempt aggravated kidnapping, theft of property $1,000 to $10,000 to wit motor vehicle, and aggravated assault.

Police named him as a suspect early Tuesday, but hours later said he had nothing to do with it. But by Tuesday evening, Fifer was behind bars.

Police say a man wearing a mask took 11-month-old Diamond Walton and her 3-year-old brother from their mother late Monday.

Police said he stabbed her multiple times, then took off in her truck with the children still inside.

Helicopters flew over Pleasant Road looking for the stolen car.

When officers spotted the Cadillac Escalade a few blocks away on Summerwood and Gill, the doors were wide open and the lights were still on.

However, police said the missing children were not inside.

The little boy was found wandering the road by himself on Hillbrook and Holmes, a mile away from where the truck was found.

After three hours of searching, police got a tip leading them to Diamond, who was hidden in the bushes.
