Tornado Watch canceled as storms pass through Mid-South

It is a HIGH RISK Severe Weather Day across the entire Mid-South. Rounds of rain are expected throughout the day. All types of severe weather may be possible including hail, damaging winds, and even tornadoes.

TORNADO WATCH issued until midnight for Alcorn, Benton, Lafayette, Marshall and Tippah counties in Mississippi; and Fayette, Hardeman and McNairy counties in Tennessee.

Here comes Round 2 of the heavy rain and thunderstorms! These are non severe but putting out a LOT of heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning. The Tornado Watch remains in effect through 1 PM and has been expanded to south central and east MS where the threat is the greatest.

There have been reports of minor street flooding 4 to 6 inches in west Jonesboro, in the 400 block of Monroe and Washington. Police are monitoring the low roadway areas.

The Millington Fire Department reported flooding in some low lying areas in north Shelby County.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Shelby and Tipton counties until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Alcorn, Prentiss and Tishomingo counties in Mississippi until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Thousands of power outages have been reported in the WREG viewing area as of 10 a.m. Wednesday. Memphis Light, Gas and Water reported 2,923 people were without power with the majority of the outages being in the Corodova and Bartlett areas.

In Arkansas, Entergy reported more than 7,000 people were without power and in Mississippi that number was less than 1,000.

Those numbers are expected to fluctuate as strong storms continue to move through the Mid-South Wednesday.

Over 5 – 7 inches of water is covering HWY 17 in Tiplersville, just south of Walnut (Tippah Co), MS.

Storm Tracker 3S Radar has indicated between 2 – 3 inches of rain. The NWS has issued a FLASH FLOOD WARNING for Fayette, Hardeman, McNairy Counties in TN, and Alcorn, Benton, DeSoto, Marshall, Tate, Tippah Counties in MS until 12:15 PM.

The Bartlett Police Department says the weather warning siren at 4620 North Brunswick Road is under repair. If you live in the area, please watch the weather radar and be weather aware during these storms. BFD is working to fix the problem.

It’s a mess out there. Shelby County is covered up in heavy rain, with strong winds, thunder and lightning. This is the first round of rain, we’ll get a break, then more storms arrive during lunch and again around rush hour. These storms may be severe.

These morning storms are producing massive lightning shows, strong gusty winds 40-50 mph and even pea size hail. Please be careful out on the roadways today. This is a day to be “weather aware” as we are in the HIGH/MODERATE risk category for severe weather.

Rush hour is going to be a beast this AM in North Mississippi, especially in DeSoto County lifting north, and Tate, Panola, and Lafayette Counties in MS. Slow down, add extra travel time, and use caution. Winds are strong, lightning is frequent, and rain is super heavy.
