A multi-day severe weather outbreak occurred across the Mid-South from April 2-5, including multiple strong tornadoes and devastating flooding.

The National Weather Service in Memphis has confirmed 26 tornadoes across the Mid-South from April 2-5. That number may still increase as damage surveys are not yet complete.

15 of the 26 tornadoes confirmed were in the News Channel 3 coverage area outlined above.

The strongest tornadoes were rated EF3 with wind speeds between 160 – 165 mph.

The tornado outbreak began on April 2nd. That is when the shocking footage of the Lake City, AR tornado was shared. The tornado outbreak continued into the early morning hours of April 3rd, where multiple strong, long-track tornadoes developed across north Mississippi and tracked into southwest Tennessee.

The overnight tornadoes unfortunately claimed the lives of at least 7 in Tennessee.

Another outbreak of tornadoes occurred in the early morning hours of April 5th in east Arkansas and west Tennessee, producing multiple short lived tornadoes between 1am and 4am.

Later that day, a final round of severe storms would produce more tornadoes over northern Mississippi, one being an EF2 that went through New Albany.
