Severe storms roll through Shelby, Fayette counties

UPDATED SUNDAY

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued Sunday night until 9 p.m. for parts of Shelby and Fayette counties.


Sixty mph wind and hail are possible. At 8:18, a severe thunderstorms was near Millington, moving east.

The News Channel 3 viewing area remains under a Heat Advisory Sunday until 7 p.m. as the heat index will likely remain at or below 105 degrees across the region.

Multiple counties in east Arkansas, north Mississippi, and west Tennessee are also under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8 p.m. Shelby County was under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 2:45 p.m., but it expired.

Additional strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and early evening as a cold front approaches and then stalls out on Monday. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire News Channel 3 viewing area in the SLIGHT risk category for damaging straight-line winds with Sunday’s storms.

Tonight: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 73. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Monday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 101.

After Sunday’s frontal passage, temperatures will cool back down closer to normal seasonal readings.
